Artist and Designer

During her childhood she would spend hours with a paper and coloured pencils drawing blue skies around white clouds. The sun was always big and yellow and the pleasure of the pencils marking the papers marked not only that sun and sky but the soul of the artist.

Brazilian artist Thays Couto is well known for her vibrantly colorful,  kaleidoscopic paintings, prints, painting  and installations, which draw on both Latin American,   and European traditions.  Rigorously structured compositions are punctuated by a recurring set of arabesque in dual colours, motifs inspired by Brazilian culture, carnival decoration, music, and architecture.

She always allows  her work to evolve into change and mutability. The  different fases of her work has changed during the years.  Never the same, never stagnated. It's an outcome of experimentation and challenges, where she classifies as collections. Perhaps influenced by her fashion education and her design background.

Painting abstract and contemporary, big and small, paint and pencils colour and black and white.

The intimacy with the ink, paints, crayons, plasters, pencils, and markers drew a multiplicity of styles and impressions that is seen rarely in one artist. Diversity in style, diversity in identity, diversity in media. multiplicity.

During her lifetime she has been able to express her artistic capabilities not only in fine arts but  in filmmaking, art directing and garment design, stage design, fashion design, interior design and graphic design. But painting  and drawing was always the shed of her light.

Brazilian artist that has lived in Brazil, USA and in the United Kingdom (Wales).  Lives in Miami, FL USA.

“The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.”
